Mastodon brings its boundary-pushing metal to The Anthem with Deafheaven and Alcest. The Atlanta quartet has built a reputation for combining progressive, heavy, and unconventional rock influences, with a catalog that includes the acclaimed albums *Leviathan*, *Crack the Skye*, *The Hunter*, *Emperor of Sand*, and *Hushed and Grim*.

The concert also features Bay Area metal band Deafheaven, whose emotionally intense music draws on black metal, screamo, shoegaze, and post-metal. Alcest completes the lineup.

Mastodon: The GRAMMY Award-winning Atlanta band formed in 2000 and is recognized for its influential, genre-defying approach to metal. Its album *Leviathan* was included in Rolling Stone’s list of the greatest metal albums, while *Crack the Skye* was named one of the best albums of 2009 by *Time*. The band earned three consecutive Top 10 debuts on the *Billboard* 200 chart with *The Hunter*, *Once More ’Round the Sun*, and *Emperor of Sand*, and won the GRAMMY for Best Metal Performance for “Sultan’s Curse.” Its ninth album, *Hushed and Grim*, reached No. 1 on the *Billboard* Hard Rock Albums chart and included the nominated song “Pushing the Tides.”

Mastodon has appeared in settings ranging from *Game of Thrones*, Adult Swim, and the History Channel to DC Comics films, Coachella, and Bonnaroo. In 2024, the band toured arenas with Lamb of God to mark the 20th anniversary of *Leviathan*, later collaborating with them on “Floods of Triton.” Mastodon was also honored by New York’s Metropolitan Opera in connection with its production of *Moby-Dick*, which shares thematic ground with *Leviathan*.

Deafheaven: Formed in the Bay Area in 2010, Deafheaven began with vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy. The group later expanded to include drummer Daniel Tracy, guitarist and keyboardist Shiv Mehra, and bassist Chris Johnson. Its music explores alienation, addiction, depression, family history, masculinity, and the possibility of overcoming inherited patterns, pairing anguished vocals and blast-beat intensity with expansive, melodic guitar work.

The band’s releases include *Roads to Judah*, *Sunbather*, *New Bermuda*, *Ordinary Corrupt Human Love*, and *Infinite Granite*. The group’s sixth album, *Lonely People With Power*, reflects on isolation, identity, damaging lessons passed through families, and the search for healthier forms of escape through community and chosen family. The album was produced with Justin Meldal-Johnsen, who also worked with the band on *Infinite Granite*.
