Cuban Dance with DC Casineros
DC Casineros Dance Company presents an afternoon of Cuban-influenced dance instruction followed by a social dance. The event draws on Afro-Cuban, Afro-Caribbean, and French and English contra-dance traditions. Participants change partners within a circle formation in response to a caller, offering a Cuban variation on the structure familiar from contra and square dancing.
DC Casineros has presented Rueda de Casino social dances at Glen Echo Park for several years. Company co-directors Amanda Gill and Adrian Valdivia have taught and performed at venues throughout the area and have experience with dance as therapy.
