THE DAMNED - FINAL DAMNATION 50

The Damned bring their Final Damnation 50 show to 9:30 Club, celebrating a career that began with their formation in 1976 and their role as one of punk rock’s foundational bands. Their sound has expanded beyond fast, raw punk to encompass gothic atmosphere, garage rock, psychedelia, horror-film theatrics, dark music-hall drama, and occasional jazz influences, while retaining the manic energy and sharp songwriting that defined their early work.

The band’s history includes releasing punk’s first single, first album, and second album in rapid succession in 1976 and 1977, becoming the first punk band to tour the United States, and later reforming for the acclaimed *Machine Gun Etiquette*. The event’s presentation also highlights the group’s later-era work, including *Evil Spirits* and *Darkadelic*. Founding vocalist David Vanian remains known for his deep, gothic croon, while Captain Sensible contributes guitar, bass, songwriting, melody, and his famously unpredictable stage persona. Their influence extends across punk, hardcore, goth, death rock, and alternative music.
