Wilfrido Terrazas / Rachel Beetz

Wilfrido Terrazas and Rachel Beetz share an evening of solo and collaborative music at Rhizome DC on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, exploring improvisation, experimental sound, and environmental listening. Terrazas, based in San Diego and originally from Ensenada, Mexico, draws on experimentalist lineages, Mexican folk traditions, and poetry. He has premiered more than 400 works, composed over 80, and recorded upwards of 60 albums released internationally, with performances across 23 countries. He is a core member of Mexico City’s improvisers’ collective Generación Espontánea, co-organizes the Semana Internacional de Improvisación in Ensenada, has taught music at the University of California San Diego since 2017, and was named a member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators for 2026–2028. Beetz, a composer, flutist, and improviser, creates works that examine community, environmentalism, and women’s work through sound, textiles, and lighting, combining experimental field recordings with electronically modified flutes. Her projects have appeared in concert halls and galleries across Australia, Iceland, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
