Gut, Wind and Wire: Ancient Airs and Dances

Sat, Oct 3, 2026at 8:00 PM
311 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg, MD
$25-$35
Featuring: Gut, Wind and Wire, Ronn McFarlane, Mindy Rosenfeld, Mark Cudek

Gut, Wind and Wire: Ancient Airs and Dances is a concert tracing the roots of folk music through Renaissance, early Celtic, and other traditional musical forms. The instrumental trio was founded by members of the internationally acclaimed Baltimore Consort and combines historically inspired performance with original compositions.

Ronn McFarlane performs on lute; Mindy Rosenfeld plays wooden flutes, fifes, and pipes; and Mark Cudek performs on cittern, bass viol, and percussion. Their program draws on music from the British Isles and continental Europe, focusing on the popular traditions of those eras and their influence on folk music today. The trio also performs original works by Grammy-nominated lutenist McFarlane.

The musicians have collaborated for 44 years, beginning as founding members of the Baltimore Consort in 1980. They have also performed together in other ensembles and as guest artists with Apollo’s Fire, the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra. Outreach and education are an important part of their work, with the members sharing early music with students of all ages and experience levels.
