ALI

ALI is a three-piece project from Jakarta, Indonesia, combining Middle Eastern musical influences with 1970s Indonesian psychedelic funk, cinematic soul, Afrobeat, and disco. With Arabic-language lyrics and a sound the group describes as “Middle Eastern Beats with South East Twists,” the band draws on Indonesia’s long-standing cultural connections to Middle Eastern art and music.

Founded by Arswandaru and John Paul Patton, ALI features Arswandaru on bass and vocals, John Paul on drums, and Absar Lebeh on guitar. Their music reflects Arswandaru’s Indonesian-Arab heritage while creating a distinctive contemporary groove for concert and festival audiences.
