Indonesian trio Ali brings their unique fusion of Middle Eastern influences with 1970s Indonesian psychedelic funk, cinematic soul, afrobeat, and disco to Songbyrd Music House on September 30, 2026. The project, initiated by Arswandaru and John Paul Patton, writes all lyrics in Arabic, drawing on centuries of Middle Eastern art and music that have deeply assimilated into Indonesian culture. The trio consists of Arswandaru on bass and vocals, John Paul on drums, and Absar Lebeh on guitar, delivering what they describe as “Middle Eastern Beats with Southeast Asian Twists.” Their performance promises a diverse and unique experience for the Washington, D.C. music scene.
