Charting the Next Frontier: Where Will Technology Take Us Next? brings together scholars, policymakers, technologists, and journalists to consider how artificial intelligence can be developed and governed for the public good. The program examines AI’s opportunities and risks, including the societal costs when these systems fail, and the role of research universities in shaping AI ethics and governance.
The event concludes with a fireside conversation with Johns Hopkins alumnus and Baltimore native Reid Wiseman, commander of NASA’s Artemis II mission. He will discuss leading the most ambitious lunar mission in half a century, the experience of traveling around the moon and back, and the future of the U.S. space program.

Program: The first portion, “Next Conversations: A.I. & Governance: Who Governs the Machine? Rules, Responsibilities and the Public Good,” is a panel on the responsibilities, rules, and ethical challenges involved in making AI serve society. The second portion is “Exploration and Discovery in Space: A Fireside Chat with NASA Astronaut Reid Wiseman.”
Panelists: Stuart Russell, director of the Center for Human-Compatible AI and professor at UC Berkeley; Dean Ball, head of Strategic Futures at OpenAI and author of *Hyperdimensional*; Gillian Hadfield, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of AI Alignment and Governance at Johns Hopkins University; and Eugene Scott, award-winning journalist and SNF Agora Institute visiting fellow, who will moderate.
