September 2026 in the Galleries with Jeffrey Berg
Artists & Makers Studios presents Jeffrey Berg’s September exhibition, “Change is Coming,” a collection of drawings focused on personal and inward transformation. Berg considers how people respond to social and political upheaval, emotional difficulty, trauma, unexpected conflict, and the crossing of both personal and physical boundaries. The work frames individual stories against unfolding events, emphasizing how people’s responses help shape their identities.
Berg’s practice is rooted in two central subjects: pencil marks and people. Through intentional and instinctive lines, repetition, layering, variation, and erasure, he explores emotion, memory, uncertainty, and change. His drawings treat observation as a form of witnessing and documentation, connecting internal feeling with outside circumstances.
The month’s program also includes a mini-solo exhibition by Lisa B. Filion in the Lounge Gallery, new work by the Resident Artists in the Gallery Hall, sculptural work by Francis Maduka Uduh in Studio 11, and a presentation by the 19 member artists of Gallery 209. Light refreshments will be available, sponsored by The Chesapeake Framing Company.
