Artists & Makers Studios in Rockville, Maryland, dedicates its July 2026 galleries to a powerful, politically engaged exhibition titled *Rendering the Invisible*, curated by Zsudayka Nzinga Terrell. Running from July 1 through July 30, the show brings together 30 artists in a direct response to what the curatorial statement describes as the current administration’s efforts to strip funding from art that explores diverse American experiences—works by Black, LGBTQ+, immigrant, first-generation, and women artists, among others. Terrell’s concept draws on a framework from Irving Weathersby’s book *In Open Contempt*, positioning images that tell suppressed narratives and actively pull erased histories out of forced invisibility. For this edition, Terrell steps outside her usual focus on Black American artists to redefine American identity from a place of togetherness. The exhibition spans photography, sculpture, painting, mixed media, and installation, and features an extensive list of DC-area artists. In addition to the main curated show, the event includes a mini-solo exhibition of Amy Rice’s work in the Lounge Gallery, a Resident Artists exhibit in the Gallery Hall, sculptural work by Francis Maduka Uduh in studio 11, and works from nineteen Gallery 209 Member Artists. A public reception with light fare (sponsored by The Chesapeake Framing Company) takes place during the Second Friday opening on July 10. The venue also offers regular viewing hours throughout the month.
