Photography Competition Series: October 2026 - May 2027
The Silver Spring Camera Club’s photography competition series is designed as a supportive, educational club activity rather than simply a contest. Participants submit digital images and prints for evaluation by a judge, who comments on each entry before selecting winning photographs. Entries are divided into novice, intermediate, and advanced levels, allowing photographers to learn from images at a comparable level of experience.
Each meeting includes separate competitions for projected digital photographs and physical prints. Winners may briefly discuss their photographs with the group. Participants may join at any point during the series, and the club also offers photo walks, online talks by professional photographers, member presentations, tutorials, and online photo-sharing opportunities. The club welcomes all kinds of equipment, including mirrorless cameras, phones, DSLRs, film cameras, and drones.
When: The event is titled for October 2026 through May 2027, while the page’s detailed schedule begins September 10, 2026, and ends May 13, 2027. Sessions take place on the second Thursday of each month.
Showtimes: September 10, 2026; October 8, 2026; November 12, 2026; December 10, 2026; January 14, 2027; February 11, 2027; March 11, 2027; April 8, 2027; and May 13, 2027. Each meeting runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Themes: September is Open; October is Nature; November is Open; December is Backlighting; January is Open; February is Still Life; March is Open; April is Minimalism; and May is Monochrome.
Lineup: Competitions are held in Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, with separate judging for projected digital images and prints.
Tickets: The 2026–2027 school-year fee is $60 for nine monthly competitions. Family, student, and active-military discounts are available. The fee is required to compete, but visitors may sit in at any session. Payment is made by credit card through PayPal.
Included: Participation includes access to the club’s weekend photo walks, online presentations by professional photographers, member presentations and tutorials, club photo sharing, monthly photowalks, online talks, and the online Photo Forum.

Note: Participants may begin at any time, but the fee is reduced only after February 1, 2027. Attendees are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to meet other photographers.
Weather policy: Sessions are canceled when Montgomery County Public Schools close because of poor weather. Canceled sessions are not rescheduled.
