Wine in the Wilderness

Set in July 1964 during the Harlem riots, "Wine in the Wilderness" follows Bill, a painter sheltering in his apartment, when friends arrive with a woman they hope he will meet. He is searching for a model to complete a series on Black womanhood, and she seems to be the answer. But Tomorrow “Tommy” Marie is not who Bill assumes, and as their borough burns outside, the two flirt, clash, and ultimately grapple with class, colorism, and self-worth. This rediscovered 1969 classic by trailblazing Black playwright Alice Childress is directed by Studio Theatre favorite Psalmayene 24, known for his acclaimed productions of *The Colored Museum* and *Purlie Victorious*.
