Vivaldi: The Four Seasons & Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings
The National Chamber Orchestra presents a program pairing Antonio Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons* with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s *Serenade for Strings*. Violinist Joshua Brown is the featured soloist for Vivaldi’s celebrated concerto cycle, performing on the “Lord Newlands” Stradivarius, which is provided through a long-term loan from Japan’s Sasakawa Music Foundation.
Brown received a 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant and attracted international attention after earning second prize and both audience awards at the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. The Stradivarius takes its name from Lord Newlands, who owned it in the late 19th century; the instrument later passed through several owners and collections before being acquired by the Nippon Music Foundation in 2002.
