Nigel Wearne

Wed, Aug 12, 2026
2700 F Street Northwest, Washington, DC
Free
Featuring: Nigel Wearne

Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nigel Wearne brings his moody, late-night style to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on August 12, 2026. Hailing from Gunditjmara country in southern Australia, Wearne filters blues, jazz, and Americana-noir through influences such as Nick Cave, Tom Waits, and Rickie Lee Jones. The free performance is part of the Kennedy Center’s ongoing Millennium Stage series, which aims to make the performing arts accessible to all.

Wearne has appeared at major festivals including Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, MerleFest, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Adelaide Guitar Festival, 30A Songwriters Festival, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, and Cambridge Folk Festival. His album *Black Crow* earned a four-star review in *Rolling Stone* and a Music Victoria Award nomination for Best Country Album, reaching number one on Australia’s AMRAP charts. His 2023 release *The Reckoning* received consecutive Best Blues Work nominations at the Music Victoria Awards, and in 2025 he released *The Lone Reckoning*, a stripped-back reinterpretation of that album. He won the Telluride Blues Challenge at the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival in 2025. Critics have described his music with phrases ranging from “Django Reinhardt with a cowboy twist” to comparisons with Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and Van Morrison, and *The Australian* awarded him four stars, praising his vocal swagger and dark spirituality.

The performance takes place at The REACH, the Kennedy Center’s outdoor campus. No tickets or registration are required, and seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are encouraged to check the Kennedy Center website on the day of the performance for any updates. Guests may bring picnics during non-event times, with coolers limited to 16 quarts or smaller and personal chairs limited to 36 inches or shorter. A variety of food and beverages are available for purchase on-site, and outside alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
