Moonshot Studio

Moonshot Studio at the REACH is a hands-on, self-guided art-making experience celebrating creativity and President John F. Kennedy’s legacy. Visitors can work at their own pace on projects inspired by Kennedy’s ideals, interests, speeches, and family, including a mini-boat, presidential portrait, original poem, and message pennant.

Projects are designed for visitors to explore independently, while Moonshot Studio staff can introduce the activities and provide help when needed. Many projects take approximately 60–90 minutes to complete, making the studio suitable for visitors who want to settle in for a longer creative process.

When: September 5–6. Moonshot Studio will be closed on both dates.

Regular Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m.–4:30 p.m., except for scheduled closures.

Activities: Build and decorate a mini-boat inspired by President Kennedy’s love of sailing; create a portrait of President Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy, or the moon landing with inspiration from Andy Warhol; write an original poem using Kennedy’s speeches as a starting point; and design a pennant expressing your own message to the world.

Run time: Projects are self-guided and self-paced. Many take 60–90 minutes.

Ages: Recommended for ages 5 and older.

Venue: The REACH at the Kennedy Center.

Logistics: Boat-building must begin before 3:45 p.m. because of the time required to complete the project.
