Bach Cantata Series: UMD Choral Activities
The Bach Cantata Series, presented by UMD Choral Activities, is an ongoing effort to perform the complete cycle of more than 200 cantatas composed by J.S. Bach. This installment in the series is a short concert led by graduate student conductors from the University of Maryland's choral program, offering a focused midday performance of one Bach cantata. The specific cantata will be announced closer to the performance date, so each program in the series provides a fresh opportunity to hear a different work from Bach's vast output. The concert takes place in the Lower Pavilion at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and is open to the general public free of charge.
UMD Choral Activities is part of the internationally regarded choral program at the University of Maryland, which is led by alumnus Jason Max Ferdinand, who earned his D.M.A. from UMD in 2015. The program gives students experience across a wide range of musical styles and eras, and the UMD Concert Choir has performed alongside the National Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at prestigious venues such as the Music Center at Strathmore, Carnegie Hall, and Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
