4318 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville, MD

Make+Take: Gelatin Plate Monotypes is a beginner-friendly printmaking workshop focused on creating layered monotype prints without a press. Participants will work with gelatin plates, water-based printing inks, stencils, and natural or found objects to build textured, one-of-a-kind images. Finished prints may be displayed on their own or used as the foundation for mixed-media and collage projects. No previous experience is required.

The workshop is led by Dr. Pamela Harris Lawton, an art educator, printmaker, and fifth-generation Washingtonian. Lawton holds degrees in studio art and sociology, printmaking, and art education, and has taught at the college level for 25 years. Her experience includes serving as Director of Education Studies at the former Corcoran College of Art + Design, working with the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Discover Graphics program, and holding the Florence Gaskins Harper Endowed Chair in Art Education at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her honors include NAEA Distinguished Fellow, NAEA Higher Education Art Educator of the Year in 2025, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at the University of Edinburgh, and an Associate Artist position at Tate Exchange in London.
