Alex Hamburger & José Luiz Martins
Flutist and vocalist Alex Hamburger and pianist and keyboardist José Luiz Martins perform as an interactive duo at The Kreeger Museum. Their genre-spanning program draws on Brazilian music, jazz, the Great American Songbook, and contemporary influences, combining thoughtfully reimagined pieces with original compositions from their debut full-length album, *Catalog of Dreams*.
The performance is part of the museum’s sixth annual Jazz at The Kreeger series, presented in collaboration with Elijah Jamal Balbed to spotlight musical talent from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The concert is supported by a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Program: The duo presents music from *Catalog of Dreams*, including six reimagined works and two original compositions. The repertoire reflects influences ranging from Brazilian music and jazz to the Great American Songbook and contemporary music, with selections associated with Gilberto Gil, Airto Moreira, Wayne Shorter, Luisa Lacerda, and Thundercat.
About the Artists: Hamburger and Martins formed their duo while living in Switzerland after coming from the Washington, D.C., area and São Paulo, respectively. They later lived in New York before settling in the D.C. area. Their collaboration has developed through more than six years of performing, touring, and creating together, with appearances at venues ranging from jazz clubs to concert halls across the East Coast, Brazil, and Europe.
Album: *Catalog of Dreams* is the duo’s debut full-length album, scheduled for release in August 2026 on Challenge Records. It follows their 2019 duo EP, *Vapor Trails*, recorded in Basel, Switzerland. The album was developed after a creative residency in Switzerland and combines an intimate, groove-oriented sound with room for improvisation and spontaneity.
