Singin’ in the Rain

Singin’ in the Rain is a Millennium Stage outdoor film screening at the Kennedy Center’s REACH Video Wall. The classic musical stars Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor and follows Hollywood performer Don Lockwood as the silent-film era gives way to talking pictures.

As Lockwood falls for studio singer Kathy Selden, his jealous screen partner Lina Lamont has Kathy fired. When audiences react badly to Lockwood’s speaking voice, the studio turns to Kathy to dub Lina’s dialogue. Set during the emergence of “talkies,” the film features celebrated song-and-dance numbers that helped define the movie musical.
