Takács Quartet Plays Haydn, Simon & Schubert
The Takács Quartet brings a thoughtfully constructed program to the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, pairing beloved string quartet repertoire with a newly commissioned work. Known for innovative programming and wide-ranging collaborations, the ensemble performs Haydn’s String Quartet in G Major, Schubert’s dramatic “Death and the Maiden” Quartet, and the world premiere of Carlos Simon’s “Warmth from Other Suns,” a Clarice Presents co-commission. The concert takes place on Sunday afternoon in the intimate Gildenhorn Recital Hall with reserved seating.
The quartet, originally founded in 1975 at the Music Academy in Budapest and now based in North America, includes violinists Edward Dusinberre and Harumi Rhodes, violist Richard O’Neill, and cellist Mihai Marica. They are Hyperion recording artists and Christoffersen Fellows in Residence at the University of Colorado Boulder, and they continue to tour extensively worldwide. Their past collaborators include bandoneón virtuoso Julien Labro, actors Meryl Streep and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, and former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky.
