Dolcissima Speranza: Featuring Renowned Tenor Thomas Cooley

Dolcissima Speranza is a Washington Bach Consort chamber music program featuring internationally acclaimed tenor Thomas Cooley. The performance explores the emergence of the Baroque in early seventeenth-century Italy, examining the new expressive language developed by composers including Jacopo Peri, Giulio Caccini, and Claudio Monteverdi, as well as the distinctive work of Sigismondo d’India and Barbara Strozzi.

Cooley, whose career has included appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the Berlin Philharmonie, leads the program with his experience in Baroque and pre-Baroque repertoire. The music highlights the period’s dramatic intensity, rhetorical boldness, and evolving approach to vocal expression.
