June McDoom

June McDoom brings her dreamlike blend of folk, dub, reggae, and layered vocal harmony to Songbyrd Music House. Her debut full-length, *Follow the Light*, draws on childhood memories, Jamaican heritage, family musical traditions, and the feeling of discovering a private musical world. Raised in a Jamaican household near Florida’s Everglades, McDoom grew up surrounded by her father’s sound systems and folk records, developing an early fascination with harmony.

Her musical inheritance also includes her grandfather Colin Smith, a respected Jamaican mento musician who played banjo and guitar, built rumba boxes, and helped preserve Jamaica’s oldest acoustic folk tradition. Recorded gradually with longtime partner Evan Wright, *Follow the Light* places folk melodies and harmonies over dub-influenced rhythms, with touches of Dionne Warwick, Minnie Riperton, Pentangle, and the atmospheric guitars of Cocteau Twins. The concert features support from Vermont multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Lutalo, whose debut album *The Academy* combines impressionistic folk and rock with vulnerable, literary songwriting and a distinctive baritone.
