Read the Room

Read the Room brings a crowd-work-focused stand-up showcase to the DC Improv’s lounge showroom on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Hosted and produced by Tim D. Miller, the show features local comedians who spend much of their time on stage talking directly with audience members, turning the set into a conversation that can lead to spontaneous laughs and unscripted moments. Miller is known across the DMV for his skill at working a room, and this lineup is built around that style of comedy, with the featured performers listed as to be announced.

Crowd work, as described on the event page, is the art of chatting with the audience while on stage, and when done well it can either set up a comedian’s best material or create entirely unplanned, in-the-moment humor. Miller’s own comedy draws on his life story, from growing up in Waco to time in the Army and work at the White House, as well as raising a daughter and finding humor in everyday life. He has appeared on TruTV, performed at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest in 2019, and is a multiple-time winner of the DC Improv’s Comedy Kumite competitions, including Kumite 25 in 2020 and a finalist finish at Comedy Kumite XL in 2023.
