The Genius of the Capitol: How Constantino Brumidi Recreated America Through the Language of Italian Art

The Genius of the Capitol explores how Constantino Brumidi used the visual language and traditions of Italian art to shape the imagery of major American institutions. The program includes a screening of *American Michelangelo*, a documentary about the 19th-century artist, whose work brought classical Italian artistic influences into spaces including the U.S. Capitol, the White House, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives.

The event is part of the Italian Cultural Society’s programming for Italian Language in the World week, whose 2026 theme focuses on brilliance in conceiving and designing. After the film, filmmaker and journalist Antonella Ciancio will discuss it with Amy Elizabeth Barton. The evening concludes with a light aperitivo.
