The Genius of the Capitol: How Constantino Brumidi Recreated America Through the Language of Italian Art

The Genius of the Capitol explores how Constantino Brumidi used the traditions and visual language of Italian art to shape the interiors of major American buildings. The program includes a screening of *American Michelangelo*, a documentary about the Roman-born 19th-century artist and his work in the United States, including murals and decorations at the U.S. Capitol, the White House, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives.

Following the film, filmmaker and journalist Antonella Ciancio will discuss it with Amy Elizabeth Barton. The evening concludes with a light aperitivo and forms part of the Italian Cultural Society’s programming for Italian Language in the World week, beginning October 19, under the theme “Brilliant language.”
