Ida
Ida brings its minimalist experimental pop to Washington, presented by Union Stage. Founded in New York City in 1992 by singers and guitarists Daniel Littleton, also of The Hated, and Elizabeth Mitchell, the band combines varied influences into intimate, understated songs marked by subtle arrangements, rich harmonies, and careful songwriting.
The group’s original lineup expanded to include Littleton’s brother Michael Littleton on drums and Karla Schickele on bass. Ida’s early releases included the luminous 1994 debut *Tales of Brave Ida*, issued by Simple Machines, followed by the critically praised albums *I Know About You* in 1996 and *Ten Small Paces* in 1997. The event description characterizes Ida’s music as hushed and private, balancing vulnerability, uncertainty, separation, and reconciliation even when the band incorporates rock rhythms or guitar feedback.
