Ida

Ida brings a minimalist, experimental form of pop shaped by understated arrangements, rich harmonies, and intimate songwriting. The New York City band was formed in 1992 by singers and guitarists Daniel Littleton, also associated with The Hated, and Elizabeth Mitchell.

The project began with the 1994 debut album *Tales of Brave Ida*, released on Jenny Toomey’s influential Simple Machines label. Ida later expanded into a full band with drummer Michael Littleton and bassist Karla Schickele. The group followed its debut with the critically acclaimed albums *I Know About You* in 1996 and *Ten Small Paces* in 1997.

Critic Jon Pareles of *The New York Times* characterized Ida’s music as hushed and private, emphasizing its emotional vulnerability even when the band incorporates rock rhythms or guitar feedback.
