STC Salon

STC Salon is a series of guided conversations that takes audiences behind the scenes of Shakespeare Theatre Company’s productions. Led by Artistic Producer Drew Lichtenberg, the sessions examine how productions are developed, rehearsed, designed, built, performed, and presented, with contributions from visiting artists and staff across STC.

The program combines close explorations of individual productions with opportunities to engage directly with the artists, technicians, stage managers, administrators, and other professionals who bring the season to life. Salon members also receive access to enrichment programs such as Behind the Curtain events, symposia, and other special activities.

When: Wednesdays during the 26/27 Season, from August 26 through June 2, with the schedule divided among six production-focused series.

Showtimes: 1–3 p.m. Schedule adjustments may occur for holidays and company schedules; those changes are provided on the individual Salon registration pages.

Schedule: The Score runs August 26–September 23; Frida…A Self Portrait runs October 7–28; A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs November 4–December 16; A Raisin in the Sun runs January 6–February 17; Romeo and Juliet runs March 17–April 21; and Follies runs May 5–June 2.

Tickets: Individual Salons are $499. A package covering all six sessions is $2,544.

Format: Each session is a deep, guided conversation about one of STC’s mainstage productions. Discussions may address dramaturgical research, directing, acting, design, lighting, costumes, sound, rehearsal discoveries, production logistics, season planning, and the work of connecting performances with audiences.

Season Structure: Non-Shakespeare productions feature three focused Salon discussions, while Shakespeare productions continue to receive expanded, multi-session explorations.

Enrichment: Salon members receive exclusive access to Behind the Curtain events, symposia, and other special programs throughout the season.

Leader: Drew Lichtenberg, STC Artistic Producer, has been part of the company’s artistic staff since 2011 and has worked on more than 65 productions. His dramaturgy credits include Broadway and Off-Broadway work, regional theatres such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, McCarter Theatre, ACT, Woolly Mammoth, Baltimore Center Stage, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Yale Repertory Theatre, as well as projects with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theatre. He is the author of *The Piscatorbühne Century* and *Shakespeare in the Theatre: Shakespeare Theatre Company*, and has taught at institutions including Johns Hopkins University, STC Academy, Catholic University of America, Yale’s David Geffen School of Drama, and Eugene Lang College. He holds a Doctor of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism from Yale School of Drama.

Audience Participation: Salon is designed as a conversational setting in which members can ask questions and contribute their own observations, treating theatre as an evolving process shared by artists and audiences.
