Zar the Star

Zar the Star brings her stand-up comedy and content-creation work to DC Improv for her debut at the venue. Her act combines incisive observations, personal storytelling, precise impressions, and candid commentary on society and politics.

Born in Tajikistan to an Afghan father and raised in Toronto, Zar draws on her cultural background and Muslim identity, as well as her experiences as a refugee, a woman of color, and a chronic overthinker. Her comedy also covers generational trauma, relationships, internet culture, scam callers, and the absurdities of everyday life. She has built an audience of nearly one million followers through viral prank calls, stand-up clips, and character sketches.
