Qi Yu Quartet
Qi Yu Quartet presents a cross-cultural jazz performance that transforms traditional Chinese melodies and rhythmic frameworks through the guzheng, or Chinese zither. Led by Qi Yu, the ensemble combines Chinese folk songs, original compositions, and reinterpreted classics with storytelling and improvisation, creating a meeting point between ancient musical traditions and contemporary jazz.
The performance features guzheng, piano, bass, and drums, with the ensemble exploring the expressive possibilities of the guzheng through jazz’s rhythmic drive and improvisational spirit. It is part of the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage programming and is offered both in person and via livestream.
