The Friday Noon Concert Series
The Friday Noon Concert Series presents Romanian-born violinist Irina Muresanu and Ukrainian-born pianist Alexei Ulitin in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. The program includes all three movements: “Allegro ma non troppo,” “Larghetto,” and “Rondo. Allegro.” The performance is free and open to the public, with an RSVP required because seating is limited.
Muresanu is an internationally active soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, and educator who has performed across North America, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and the Caribbean. She has received prizes at competitions including the Montreal International, Queen Elisabeth, UNISA International String, Washington International, and Schadt String competitions. Her honors also include a 2024 Fulbright U.S. Scholar award, the Presser Award, an Arthur Foote Award, a Pro Musicis International Award, and grants supporting her music and education research. Her recent projects include “Infinite Strings,” promoting violin music by Romanian composers, and recordings of works by Violeta Dinescu and Dan Dediu, along with music by Thomas Oboe Lee, Elena Ruehr, William Bolcom, Guillaume Lekeu, Alberic Magnard, and Marion Bauer.
Ulitin, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, is a chamber musician, solo pianist, collaborative pianist, and teacher. He serves on the Collaborative Piano faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the piano faculty at Rowan University. His previous positions include visiting assistant professor of collaborative piano at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and musical-staff roles at the Aspen, Meadowmount, Siena, and Northern Lights festivals. His competition honors include first prize in the Baltimore Music Club Competition and the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington, D.C. He holds degrees from Rowan University, the National Music Academy of Ukraine, and the University of Maryland.
