Camila Meza - Chilean Jazz Series
Camila Meza, a Chilean vocalist, guitarist, and composer, brings a distinctive blend of contemporary jazz, South American and Brazilian traditions, and pop influences to Blues Alley. Her performances combine clear, soulful singing, advanced guitar playing ranging from self-accompaniment to intense improvisation, and melodic songwriting shaped by vivid storytelling.
Meza moved from Chile to New York at age 23 and graduated from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in 2013, where she studied with Peter Bernstein, Vic Juris, Sam Yahel, Steve Cardenas, and Gil Goldstein. She has performed with Ryan Keberle’s Catharsis and Fabian Almazan’s Rhizome, and collaborated with artists including Paquito D’Rivera, Aaron Goldberg, and Sachal Vasandani. Her work has been featured at festivals around the world, on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, and on WBGO’s The Checkout. In 2019, she released her fifth album, *Ambar*, on Sony Music Masterworks and introduced the Nectar Orchestra, a collaboration with bassist and arranger Noam Wiesenberg. In 2018, Pat Metheny selected her to perform and serve as musical director for his NEA Jazz Masters induction ceremony at the Kennedy Center. DownBeat named her its No. 1 Rising Star Female Vocalist in 2022.
