Bloom at Good Hope: Ellington Carthan
Bloom at Good Hope: Ellington Carthan is a free, hour-long jazz concert presented as part of the Bloom at Good Hope Concert Series, produced by Strathmore in partnership with the Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center. The performance features pianist Ellington Carthan, a composer, sound designer, performer, and educator whose work connects jazz tradition with contemporary game audio composition. Named for Duke Ellington, Carthan draws on a deep jazz lineage while moving fluidly across genres, and his set at Good Hope promises an engaging blend of styles in an accessible, community-focused setting.
Carthan is a former Strathmore Artist in Residence with dual bachelor's degrees in Jazz Studies and Music Technology and a Master of Music from Howard University. His performance career includes sharing stages with Warren Wolf and Cécile McLorin Salvant, opening for jazz icon Cyrus Chestnut, and appearing at Blues Alley Jazz Club and The Kennedy Center. In 2022, he performed for President Joe Biden and the Massachusetts Attorney General, and in 2023 he joined the faculty of St. Mary’s College of Maryland as an Assistant Professor. This concert is part of Bloom by Strathmore, an initiative designed to build community and expand access to the arts.
