Featuring: Andrew Yee, Rothko String Quartet

Composer inti figgis-vizueta brings her debut album *Music for Transitions* to Strathmore’s Mansion for a special release celebration. The evening features Grammy Award-winning cellist Andrew Yee and the Germany-based Rothko String Quartet, performing music rooted in Indigenous heritage and trans identity. Through playful, ecstatic soundscapes and collective improvisation, the program reflects figgis-vizueta’s dedication to personal liberation, with recurring imagery of land, wind, rivers, and cosmology. Composer George Lewis has described the work as embodying “the dynamics of the decolonial.”

This performance marks the culmination of more than six years of collaboration between figgis-vizueta, Yee, and the Rothko String Quartet. Together and in other ensembles, Yee and the quartet have premiered over fifteen of figgis-vizueta’s works across the United States and Germany. The concert showcases the creative range of this cello quintet in celebration of the new album’s release.
