Melvis Santa's Gata Jazz Trio - Cuban Jazz Series

Melvis Santa’s Gata Jazz Trio brings an all-female, New York City–based ensemble to Blues Alley for the Cuban Jazz Series. Led by Grammy-nominated pianist, vocalist, percussionist, and composer Melvis Santa, the trio combines Afro-Cuban avant-garde music, blues, and Latin influences while exploring women’s diasporic experiences in a traditionally male-dominated jazz world. The name “Gata Jazz,” meaning “cat jazz” in feminine Spanish, connects the group’s musical authority with a message of female empowerment.

The performance is co-presented with the Embassy of Cuba.
