Exhibition Demos: Hands on the Loom - Exploring Spinning and Weaving Techniques
This hands-on fiber arts demonstration explores how raw wool, cotton, flax, and silk are transformed into textiles. Members of the Weavers Guild of Greater Baltimore will demonstrate spinning with spinning wheels, supported spindles, and drop spindles, as well as weaving patterns on a standard floor loom. Visitors can try spinning and weaving themselves, though some waiting may be necessary because only one loom and one spinning wheel are available.
The Weavers Guild of Greater Baltimore is a nonprofit organization founded in 1948 to promote education and the advancement of weaving and fiber arts. Its more than 300 members participate in meetings, lectures, workshops, classes, a weaving school, community programs, and shared resources such as an extensive fiber arts library.
