Workshop - Committing Ourselves to Freedom

This workshop, led by renowned trombonist and educator Dan Blacksberg, offers an afternoon of group playing and discussion centered on the concept of freedom in music. Participants will explore freedom not merely as an escape from genre constraints, but as a positive choice to define one's own musical goals, instrumental techniques, and relationships with musical conventions. The session includes both large and small group improvisation, guided practice in building a free music community, and a collective engagement with the traditions of Black creative music and free improvisation.
