K-Literature Talk: A Conversation with Author Sang Young Park (In-person!)
Sang Young Park joins the Korean Cultural Center Washington for an in-person conversation about contemporary Korean literature, under the theme “Stories of Love, People and Our Times.” The discussion will examine Park’s creative development, his perspectives on love, relationships, loneliness, desire, human life, and contemporary society, and the broader body of work beyond his internationally recognized novel *Love in the Big City*.
Park will select and read a passage from one of his works, after which attendees can reflect on the selection and share their responses with him. The program will also address his recent creative work and future direction, including *The Woman Wearing a Straw Crown*, his mystery novel published in July 2026. The event is open to everyone and is intended for readers interested in Korean fiction and contemporary literary culture.

Audience participation: Attendees may submit questions in advance or ask them during the live Q&A. Ten participants selected from the advance and live questions will receive gifts as a thank-you.
Author: Sang Young Park was born in 1988 and studied French at Sungkyunkwan University. Before becoming a novelist, he worked for seven years as a magazine editor, copywriter, and consultant. He lives in Seoul.
Works discussed: Park’s writing includes *The Tears of an Unknown Artist, or Zaytun Pasta*, a seven-story collection about relationships, artistic struggle, and the lives of varied characters; *Love in the Big City*, which follows a young writer through stories of love, friendship, family, separation, and loneliness; *Lie Like Lines*, a coming-of-age novel about first love, school life, friendship, emotional wounds, and school violence; and *About Faith*, the concluding volume of his “Love Trilogy,” focused on work, relationships, isolation, and life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Featured recent work: *The Woman Wearing a Straw Crown* follows a woman investigating buried family truths after her mother’s death. The mystery involves a powerful chaebol family, desire, revenge, love, and difficult chapters of modern Korean history. Published in July 2026, it represents a shift toward the mystery genre for Park.
