Historian and educator Kevin M. Levin presents his biography *A Glorious Fate: The Life and Legacy of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw*. The talk examines how Shaw developed from a reluctant volunteer into a Union martyr and considers the lasting significance of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry.
Part of Ford’s Theatre’s History Talks series, the program explores Abraham Lincoln’s legacy and its continuing relevance through illustrated presentations by Civil War and history specialists. Books will be available for purchase in the gift shop before the event, followed by a signing with Levin.

Speaker: Kevin M. Levin is a Boston-based historian and educator. His other books include *Remembering the Battle of the Crater: War As Murder* and *Searching for Black Confederates: The Civil War’s Most Persistent Myth*. His commentary has appeared in *The New York Times*, *The Washington Post*, *The Boston Globe* and other publications. A former high school history teacher, he leads workshops and tours focused on civil rights and Civil War sites for teachers and students nationwide.
