Artist Pop-Up Talk: Yoshitomo Nara

Join internationally celebrated artist Yoshitomo Nara for a special pop-up talk on the Hirshhorn’s West Lawn. Nara will discuss *Sentinels of Stillness*, an installation of three monumental sculptures created in 2025 that will inaugurate the Sculpture Garden’s new exhibition space. He will be in conversation with Betsy Johnson, an associate curator at the Hirshhorn.

Nara, born in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, Japan, in 1959, is known for an emotionally resonant body of work spanning four decades and encompassing drawing, painting, sculpture and architectural installations. His sculptural practice emerged in the mid-1980s through expressive, hand-carved wooden figures emphasizing material, scale and psychological depth.
