What Became of Us
What Became of Us is a DC premiere play by Shayan Lotfi that follows a sister and brother across a lifetime, chronicling their shared experiences, fractures, and forgiveness. The elder sibling was born in The Old Country, the younger in This Country, and the story moves through childhood, teenage rebellion, career milestones, parenthood, and old age through their alternating perspectives. The production is performed by two different casts on alternating nights, each drawn from a different diasporic background, allowing audiences to witness the same intimate journey refracted through distinct cultural lenses. Directed by Ethan Heard, Signature Theatre's Associate Artistic Director, the play is described as a soaring, poetic work that redefines home through the lens of life's longest relationship.
