Substrate: Shed

Substrate: Shed brings René Pawlowitz, known professionally as Shed, to Transmission for a techno performance. Born in Frankfurt, Pawlowitz became interested in electronic music in the early 1990s before moving to Berlin in 2002, where he founded Soloaction Records with support from the influential record store Hard Wax.

Shed released his first EP, “Red Planet Express,” on his own label in 2004. His 2008 debut album, “Shedding the Past,” was named Album of the Year by Resident Advisor. Since then, he has released music through labels including Ostgut Ton and Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons, while also working under aliases such as Head High and The Higher. His DJ sets and live performances combine raw dance-floor rhythms with detailed melodies, harmonic arrangements, and airy textures.
