Beverly Ress
Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art presents a solo exhibition by Maryland-based artist Beverly Ress. The exhibition features Ress’s carefully observed representational drawings, reflecting her sustained focus on close observation and figurative representation. Ress lives and works in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Ress grew up in Cleveland and New Jersey. She earned an AB in Fine Arts from Earlham College and an MFA in Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her drawings have been shown in solo exhibitions at the Katzen Museum in Washington, DC; the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University; and the Kentler International Drawing Space in Brooklyn. Her work has also appeared in national invitational drawing exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum and the Arkansas Arts Center, as well as in numerous group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. In 2024, her drawings were featured in *New American Painting*.
Her honors include five Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council, a Pollock-Krasner Grant, a United States Artists project grant, and a fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center.
