Artist Pop-Up Talk: Chatchai Puipia

Artist Pop-Up Talk: Chatchai Puipia is a brief presentation by acclaimed Thai contemporary artist Chatchai Puipia about *Wish You Were Here* (2008), his large-scale bronze sculpture newly installed in the Hirshhorn’s revitalized Sculpture Garden. The talk explores how the work balances intimacy with monumentality and gives visitors additional insight into the sculpture.

Puipia, born in Mahasarakarm, Thailand, in 1964, is one of Thailand’s most internationally recognized contemporary artists. After graduating from Silpakorn University in the late 1980s, he developed a style sometimes described as Thai magical realism. His paintings and sculptures draw on everyday life and imagination, addressing self-reflection, creative solitude, and social critique. The program is presented with support from the Embassy of Thailand in Washington, DC.
