Salon Concert featuring Dashiell Waterbury and James Sparks
Tenor Dashiell Waterbury and pianist James Sparks present Franz Schubert’s song cycle *Die Winterreise* (D. 911) in a salon-style performance at the Arts Club of Washington. The program follows a traveler’s emotional and physical journey through 24 songs, with an intermission midway through the cycle. The performance is followed by a reception with the artists.
The Salon Concert Series is presented by the Arts Club’s Classical Music Committee and places chamber music in the club’s historic setting, intended to evoke the period in which the music was composed. The Arts Club of Washington is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Dashiell Waterbury: Waterbury is a tenor who has performed in opera, musical theater, and art song for more than 20 years. He holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a second master’s degree in Stage Directing from Florida State University. His operatic roles have included leading parts in *Die Zauberflöte*, *La Bohème*, *Die Fledermaus*, *Pagliacci*, *The Rake’s Progress*, *Gianni Schicchi*, and *Roméo et Juliette*, as well as the title role in *The Phantom of the Opera*. His theater credits include Benedick in *Much Ado About Nothing*, Mark Antony in *Julius Caesar*, and Mercutio in *Romeo and Juliet*. Now based in Washington, DC, he recently sang the tenor solo role of Uriel in Haydn’s *The Creation* with the Washington City Choir and the National Symphony Orchestra.
James Sparks: Sparks is a Kentucky-born collaborative pianist and vocal coach. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Morehead State University and a Master of Music in Vocal Coaching and Piano Accompanying from Westminster Choir College. He is known for expressive playing, attentive accompaniment, and vocal coaching, and has collaborated with singers in recitals, competitions, and performances throughout the United States and abroad. His international work has included engagements in France, Germany, and Switzerland.
