Djangolaya
Djangolaya brings an energetic, elegant take on Hot Club-style jazz to Hank Dietle’s Tavern. Inspired by Django Reinhardt and the cafés and dance halls of 1930s Paris, the ensemble combines violin, vocals, rhythm guitar, accordion, woodwinds, and upright bass. The group can perform in formats ranging from an intimate duo to a swinging six-piece band, depending on the occasion.
Founded in 2014 at Django in June, a Massachusetts music camp devoted to Reinhardt’s music, Djangolaya grew from a meeting between three musicians who discovered they lived near one another in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Its members are active across the local music scene and have performed with Hot Club of DC, the Tom Cunningham Orchestra, YazooZazz, and other jazz, classical, and traditional ensembles.
