"Agave Spirits" Author Book Talk

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C., hosts a free author talk centered on *Agave Spirits: The Past, Present, and Future of Mezcals*. Co-authors Gary Paul Nabhan, an acclaimed ethnobotanist, and David Suro Piñera, a pioneering restaurateur, will share insights drawn from years of research and firsthand experience with mezcal and other agave spirits. Their conversation explores the rich history, cultural significance, and biodiversity of these traditional drinks, as well as the deep connections between agave cultivation, traditional knowledge, environmental stewardship, and the communities that have safeguarded these practices across generations.

Following the authors’ discussion, attendees can take part in a live Q&A session. The program then concludes with a book sale and signing, giving guests the chance to meet the authors and have their copies personally signed. The event is designed for mezcal enthusiasts, food and beverage professionals, and anyone curious about one of Mexico’s most iconic cultural traditions.
