Sacred Texts, Shared Thoughts: A Religious Exploration Discussion Group
Sacred Texts, Shared Thoughts is a casual, conversational discussion group about how religious and spiritual traditions from different times and places approach everyday life. Participants will consider practical guidance, ethical decision-making, personal reflection, and the ideas that resonate with their own experiences.
The first 12-week sequence draws on short, accessible selections from major traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Taoism, Stoicism, Shinto, Yoruba traditions, Animism, Christianity, Islam, and some modern faiths. This is intended as an open discussion rather than an academic seminar or intensive religious-studies course; no prior background is required, and there are no expected right or wrong answers.
When: Sunday, November 1, 2026
Showtimes: 11:00 AM–12:30 PM
Schedule: The group meets every other week. The page also describes the series as beginning Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Run time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Tickets: Free to attend, with a suggested donation of $5–$10 to support Rhizome’s community space.
Venue: Upstairs at Rhizome DC, 6950 Maple St NW, Washington, D.C. 20012
Format: Participants discuss short readings and share their responses to the philosophies and practices presented. The group emphasizes conversation, personal reflection, and connections to daily life rather than a dense or comprehensive survey.

Registration: Registration is available through the event page.
Get involved: The working syllabus and readings are available at tinyurl.com/explorefaiths, and the community also has a Meetup group at meetup.com/dc-religious-exploration-book-club/.

Note: Organizers hope to continue the conversations beyond the initial 12 weeks if interest remains strong.
