Make+Take: Miniature Drypoints

Wed, Dec 2, 2026at 7:00 PM
4318 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville, MD
$46

Make+Take: Miniature Drypoints is a beginner-friendly printmaking workshop at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. Participants will learn the drypoint process, an intaglio technique in which a design is drawn directly onto an acrylic printing plate with a sharp, needle-like tool. No acids or grounds are needed, and each participant will create their own miniature drypoint prints.

The workshop is led by Dr. Pamela Harris Lawton, an experienced art educator and printmaker. Registration includes the materials needed for class, and participants may bring a prepared sketch, approximately 5 by 7 inches, to use as the basis for their plate.

When: December 2

Showtimes: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Tickets: $46

Registration: Registration closes November 25, 2026.

Level: Beginner; no previous printmaking experience is required.

Venue: Pyramid Atlantic Art Center

Materials: All necessary workshop supplies are included. Optional items to bring are a personal apron or clothing that can get inky, a pencil and paper or sketchbook for developing ideas and taking notes, and a prepared sketch or drawing for the printing plate.

Instructor: Dr. Pamela Harris Lawton is the Florence Gaskins Harper Endowed Chair in Art Education and a thought leader for the Hurwitz Center at the Maryland Institute College of Art. A fifth-generation Washingtonian and graduate of DC public schools, she first encountered printmaking through Discover Graphics, a professional program at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She holds degrees in studio art and sociology, printmaking, and art education. She has taught art and art education at the college level for 25 years and formerly directed Education Studies at the Corcoran College of Art + Design.

Instructor background: Lawton’s honors include NAEA Distinguished Fellow, NAEA Higher Education Art Educator of the Year in 2025, the J. Eugene Grigsby Award, the Pearl Greenberg Award for Teaching and Research in Art Education, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at the University of Edinburgh, and Associate Artist status at the Tate Exchange in London.
