RACHMANINOFF & SAXOPHONE NOIR

The Fairfax Symphony presents *Rachmaninoff & Saxophone Noir*, an evening pairing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s lush Symphony No. 3 with two works highlighting fresh orchestral perspectives. The program includes the regional premiere of Adam Hochstatter’s *Noir Concerto No. 1* for saxophone and orchestra, performed by saxophonist Russell Peterson. Inspired by cinematic atmosphere, the concerto explores the expressive and darker colors of the orchestral saxophone.

The concert also features Leshnoff’s *Radiance*, in a world-premiere arrangement for orchestra. Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3, written during the composer’s self-imposed exile, brings sweeping melodies, rich orchestral color, and a deeply personal, nostalgic character to the program. Music director Christopher Zimmerman conducts.
