RACHMANINOFF & SAXOPHONE NOIR

Sat, Oct 10, 2026at 7:30 PM
4373 Mason Pond Drive, George Mason, VA
Price not available
Featuring: Fairfax Symphony, Russell Peterson, Christopher Zimmerman

Fairfax Symphony presents an evening pairing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s lush, emotionally charged Symphony No. 3 with two contemporary works. The program features the world premiere of Joseph Leshnoff’s *Radiance* and the regional premiere of Adam Hochstatter’s *Noir Concerto No. 1* for saxophone and orchestra, performed by saxophonist Russell Peterson.

Christopher Zimmerman conducts the concert. Hochstatter’s concerto explores the saxophone’s cinematic atmosphere, expressive range, and virtuosic brilliance, while Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3 reflects the composer’s self-imposed exile through soaring melodies, rich orchestral colors, and nostalgic intensity. A pre-concert talk offers additional insight from Zimmerman and special guests.

When: Saturday, October 10, 2026

Showtimes: Pre-concert talk at 6:30 PM; concert at 7:30 PM
