XXII Fuego Flamenco Festival
The XXII Fuego Flamenco Festival is GALA Hispanic Theatre’s 22nd annual flamenco celebration, bringing together artists from the United States and abroad for three weeks of performances. The 2026 festival features three productions: Marta Gálvez’s *La velada*, Edwin Aparicio’s *Entre dos sombras*, and Cristina Cazorla’s *Danzas solemnes*. A Festival Pass provides admission to all three shows at a 20% savings.
The festival opens with the Washington, D.C. premiere of *La velada*, continues with the world premiere of *Entre dos sombras*, and concludes with the D.C. premiere of *Danzas solemnes*. The performances explore flamenco tradition, memory, artistic legacy, mortality, love, and the history of Spanish dance and music.

Schedule: *La velada* runs November 5–8, with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. *Entre dos sombras* runs November 13–15, with performances Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. *Danzas solemnes* runs November 20–22, with performances Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
La velada: Gálvez’s work brings traditional and contemporary perspectives together, treating dance as a passage where the past enters the present and inherited experiences are transformed through the body. The production reflects on the artists who danced before her, celebrating their journeys, legacies, and love of the art form. Gálvez performs with guitarist David Durán, singer Rosa Linero, and percussionist Luis Dorado. The production is a D.C. premiere.
Entre dos sombras: Directed and performed by Edwin Aparicio, this flamenco work inhabits the brief interval between two darknesses, examining the closeness of life and death in flamenco’s expression of loss, ecstasy, intensity, hope, love, and the wonder of being alive. It honors three artists lost by Washington’s creative community: flamenco figures Ana Martínez and Paco de Málaga, and Salvadoran-born photographer Muriel Hasbun, whose work about memory and impermanence connects with the production’s themes. Aparicio is joined by dancers Cristian Truco and Norberto Chamizo; singers Amparo Heredia “La Repompilla” and Francisco Orozco “Yiyi”; guitarist Ricardo Marlow; and members of the Flamenco Aparicio Dance Company. This is a world premiere.
Danzas solemnes: Cristina Cazorla’s production travels through different Spanish settings and styles, presenting an elegant, strongly rooted form of Spanish dance accompanied by iconic classical music. Cazorla performs with Javier Moreno, Susana Algora, Adrián Gómez, and Isabel Serrano. The production includes original music by Álex Pernas, along with works by Claude Debussy, Ruperto Chapí, Joaquín Rodrigo, Joaquín Turina, Antón García Abril, Gaspar Sanz, and Luis de Briceño. It is a D.C. premiere.
Special performances: The festival’s Noche de GALA and press nights are Friday, November 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. for *La velada*, and Friday, November 13, 2026, at 8 p.m. for *Entre dos sombras*.
Tickets: Individual-show prices are $50 for Premium Center, $45 for Orchestra Standard, $35 for Orchestra Value, and $25 for Balcony Value. Seniors age 65 and older, military personnel, and groups of 10 or more pay $35; students and people age 25 or younger pay $25. Noche de GALA tickets cost the selected ticket price plus $5 per person.
