Madama Butterfly
Puccini’s tragic opera returns in a new Washington National Opera production staged on the company’s Revolutionary Stage. The story follows Cio-Cio-San through a passionate romance, abandonment, and devastating loss, with an immersive setting inspired by Japan that brings her emotional journey into close focus.
Korean soprano Karah Son makes her Washington National Opera debut as Cio-Cio-San, joined by tenor Matthew White and Cafritz Young Artist alumna Michelle Mariposa. E. Loren Meeker directs, with the Japanese-inspired scenic design and setting created by Walt Spangler.
