Pump Action

Pump Action is a four-piece band built around friendship, brotherhood, and a shared connection to Miami Hurricanes football. The group blends funk, indie rock, and R&B, embracing a genre-crossing sound that can range from virtuosic and polished to energetic and unexpected. Their influences have been compared to artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder, Santana, and Justin Timberlake, though the band prefers not to be confined to a single category.

Jack, Spencer, Poppy, and Trent met as freshmen at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music in 2019. They became friends, bandmates, roommates, and eventually van-mates after relocating to Nashville. Pump Action released its debut EP, *Coronation*, in 2022 and gained further attention with the 2023 single “Maybe It’s You,” also known online as the “Shroom Riff.” The band has appeared on ESPN’s TikTok through its drummer’s performance of “Apache” using a Roland sample pad and a floor lamp, opened for Bermuda Search Party, Harvey Street, and Winyah, and reached the finals of NPR’s 2025 Tiny Desk Contest.
